My daughter dropped her Windows phone Monday outside a restaurant after we had lunch and the its screen shattered. So, after work, she bought a Samsung Galaxy S5 to replace it along with another S5 for her hubby. Monday evening she filmed a video of her daughter (she's a spitting image of my daughter) and sent it to me. Well, the video quality sucked. It was compressed and raggedy. It was worse then videos sent to me when she used an iPhone. I reached the conclusion if I want quality videos of my granddaughter, I need to be using the same platform the video was created on. It pained me tremendously  to walk into that store yesterday and buy the white LG G3 freaking Android phone. I swore for years that I would never use Android but seeing vids of Alayna means more to me than my hated of Google. Anyway, the hardware aspect of the phone is sweet but I still hate Android. I really miss the Nokia 1520's Live Tiles. I'll keep my beloved 1520 for a backup phone but I miss using it already. i ordered a couple Spigen cases for the G3 today so I guess I'm pretty much married to the reality of using Android now. GRRRRRRR! Great phone, terrible OS.

BTW, the soon to be released Samsung Note Edge is a kick ass phone.

I wonder if you still loved Lumia 800, if you by accident happened to own that one instead of 820. Given the fact it lost its Skype functionality thanks to very clever decision by all-mighty Microsoft.

Dunno about the Lumia 800, never ever saw one, I just know that my 820 is a great phone for my needs.  Besides, I never use skype, never had a need or use for it, so I really don't care what MS did to another model.

i have nothing with the apple ecosystem now. well, except itunes to mange my music on the big rig. i sold my ipad air today and bought a samsung tab s 8.4. i thought about getting the 10.1 or whatever it is but decided to get the smaller. and wow, even though they're both droid, they couldn't be more different.

the current tally is:

windows on the desktop rig, one surface 3 pro tablet, one lumia 2520 tablet, and the lumia 1520 phone

android on the lg g3 phone and the samsung tab s tablet.

sorry, starkers

Nothing to be sorry about, old mate.  If the Samsung tablet suits your needs then that's all that matters.  I have an Android tablet myself.  It's only a cheapy one but it has served me well/does what I need... for now.  What I really want is a Windows tablet, and the Surface Pro 3 looks like a nice unit, but it is a bit exy here ATM and I may consider another brand when the time comes to purchase.

As for Apple products, the only one I'm interested in is the cylindrical desktop unit that looks quite classy and compact in a space-age kind of way.  Were I ever able to afford one of those I would certainly be inclined to purchase one... not that I'd ever become a Mac fanboi and get rid of my Windows rigs.  I invested too much time and money in those 2 to see them replaced... like I built them with my own bare hands and sweat buckets, not to mention the blood I spilled in the process, so they'd remain my 1st and 2nd rigs if I did manage to get the Mac.

starkers, i was offered $550 for my 1520 and my PMA charging mat. i am seriously considering it. I told him I'd let him know by Thursday if I accept his offer. that would be more money to spend on my granddaughter for xmas. i truly love that phone but the offer seems pretty darned good. to quote mellencamp and tritt, "what say you?"

If you believe it is a good deal and the cash would be useful at Xmas, and you can bear to part with it, then I say go for it.  It's not like it would entirely leave you without a phone, and who knows, a bit further down the track you may find a new Lumia offering that's quite to your liking.

At the end of the day, though, it's totally your decision.
